Google tools practical project

In the beginning of this semester, we were in the charge to conduct a training session on Google tools. I trained my class how to use Picasa 3 & Picasa Web Albums. That was a great opportunity to learn more about the various tools by the giant Google.

Next project was the peer teaching lesson and this one was really challenging and full of excitement for me in personal (^_^)!!

Here we come to our last project in MIS :( and this is the "Google tools practical project". In this project the main idea is to practice and use the Google tools from the first project. We are using the Blog and Google Sites site to keep records of our progress in weekly basis.

For me, I found all projects were useful and they have meaning and message. For example, before these projects I was just thinking about Google as a search engine and a language translator. I never thought that I will be benefited of Google calendar or Google Chrome or the other wonderful tools.

After experiencing and using these tools I'm really using them for personal uses and for professional usage (college work). As I've wrote in my previous post, I'm using Google Chrome now as my Web browser. Also, I'm using Google calendar to organize my work and highlight the important events and deadlines I have to meet. I've depended heavily on Google calendar to set the tasks and work submission dates with my group and I was the one who encouraged them to use this tool to manage our time and I was keen to update the calendar to them. In addition, I've used Google Docs usually to share word documents with my group members because this will save us time and money LOL and this what is called "Cutting the cost" in business ^_*

Another great tool from the great Google I've used is Gmail. In the past, I used to think that Hotmail is the best, but "Maybe" I was somehow wrong :$ !! I've discovered many features and abilities that Hotmail account doesn't provide you. In instance, the performance (speed) is consistently fast, and emails can be tagged making search much more effective. Gmail also offers more storage. One good feature is that Gmail is connected with your Google calendar entries like for example I entered "International Trade Exam Collections" I will receive a reminder on my Gmail of this entry.

An example of a reminder from Google calendar in Gmail:

I can't ignore the beloved Picasa in helping me in emergencies if I want to edit my digital photos in few quick clicks!! Picasa has really great features you can just click and upload photos to Picasa Web Albums, share photos with your friends, print photos in very nice look and high resolution, create movies easily while you are eating you piece of cake, and even e-mail photos without the need attach the photo are resize it!! I love photography and I need sometimes to quickly fix and edit these photos .. Picasa is the there!!

Life is not free of cons, one tool I found was not that much useful is "iGoogle"  the idea is it only Google Personalized Homepage. So nothing really important is there.

Finally, words are powerless to describe how happy I am to have this course with these projects. I gained a great experience from these projects and hope I can advise other people to use these tools for personal or professional use. I'm sad that I will not attend any more MIS classes with Mr. Tridib :(

You have been more than a teacher- a mentor, guide, and philosopher!
Thanks for your great efforts sir!!

~ Google Chrome !!

The Google tools projects is over, but we were suggested to continue using these tools. The tool that I really kept using it was Google Chrome. At first, I didn't thought that I'm going to use it heavily but I did!!

Now I'm often using this Web Browser to surf the net. I found Google Chrome so useful with the dynamic tabs and the bookmark manager. I use Google Chrome to view my Blogs, Google Calendar, Google Docs, Google search engine, and other Google tools. I noticed one strange thing, If I open Google Docs using Internet Explorer the session can't be completed it is break down. On the other hand, opening Google Docs using Google Chrome is so easy flowing and the session is completed without any complications.

I wanted to learn more about this browser, so I thought to surf Youtube.com and I found this short and interesting video.
10 Features of Google Chrome

New things I learned about Google Chrome:
* It has a crash control.
* Incognito mode.
* Full screen mode.
* Different themes.

DWC Bazaar 2009 .. What is special about??

I have been in Dubai Women's College now for 3 years and this is my 4th year.It is well known that there is an annual and special event for DWC students and people outside the college which is the DWC Annual Bazaar. In my first Bazaar I raised funds to one of local organizations (Noor) that help disabled children.

The second year Bazaar I worked as an employee in HD2 students' mini business. In the third year of my college life me and my group Shaima, Shirin, Shaikha and Sara we started our own mini business and we supervised HD1 students and I acted as a Marketing Manager.

This year, the 4th year, in the college me as a Finance student worked in the Bazaar main bank in the Treasury. The Treasury team was originally compromised of Shaima, me, Maitha H. and Sara A. But during the pressure time, other people were helping us continuously I can't mention their names because I'm afraid that I miss someone.

The work in the main bank in the Treasury was sooooooo exciting ^_^
I think we all enjoyed working in the bank and enjoyed supervising the other 5 banks also. We started our work from 8 am until 10 pm during the 3 days of the Bazaar. We were in charge to open and close balances for the students in other banks.

The process of buying and selling the Dirhams and the Dhows, the college currency, was so simple and easy going. Our bank in the last day was only responsible for buying back the Dhows from people.

All in all, although it was little bit tiring, I was really enjoying my time. Our efforts didn't go worthlessly, our team received an achievement award from Mr. Philp here is the statement:

"Special Achievement Award have gone to Saleha for working 13 hours each day for THREE days in the TREASURY Dept & The Head Office of the Bazaar Bank from 8th to 10th December 2009.

This is probably the most important 'Achievement Award' a 'Financial Services Student' can be awarded because it is the first time in 13 years that any student has been given such a prestigious award."

Dr Howard will be asked to make this award to Saleha for her dedication and loyalty and for demonstrating exceptional 'Management' and 'Business' skills with infinite energy and tremendous enthusiasm far beyond the call of normal duty.

Words cannot describe how proud I am of Saleha and the impact she has made on me as I add her name to the FSRV Bazaar Bank's 13 year old "Roll of Honor".

Thank you my team, Mr. Philip, Dr. Reed and all my classmates :)

yeeeeeeeeeeeh!!
